As the LPGA Tour season starts to crank up, so is Brooke Henderson from Smiths Falls.
Henderson moved up two spots in the Rolex world rankings to fourth - her best ranking ever - after her tie for third at the LPGA Volvik Championship on Sunday. Henderson had a final round 68 for a total of 9-under par. She finished six shots back of Ariya Jutanugarn, who won her third tournament in a row.
Jutanugarn became the first player in Tour history to have the first three wins of her career come in consecutive tournaments. She is also the first player since Inbee Park in 2013 to win three LPGA tournaments in a row.
Henderson's strong ball striking (she averaged 288 yards off the tee in the fourth round and hit 50 of 72 greens in regulation for the week) set her up for 20 birdies for the week. She is now No. 1 in birdies on the LPGA Tour this year with 210 in 52 rounds.
She earned $75,987 at the Volvik and is now seventh on the money list with $538,344.
With the KPMG Women's PGA Championship coming up in two weeks and the heart of the LPGA schedule, Henderson is hoping she's hitting her stride. She'll play in the ShopRite LPGA Classic this week in New Jersey.
"There's definitely things I have to work on going into next week," Henderson said. "Some silly mistakes early in the week and even today a couple, but overall I'm very happy with how things are going and hopefully just be able to finish it off in the near future."
Henderson returned to the top 10 for the first time in three tournaments. She finished in the top 10 eight tournaments in a row earlier this season.
"Overall it was a solid week," she said. "It's always nice to see your name up near the top of the leaderboard and it's been a few weeks since that happened for me, so today was definitely a solid day for me. I missed some opportunities, but I also made up for a couple here on the back nine, so overall I'm happy."
